Local Programs

Ability-Works

  • Location: 3920 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky (Main building, programming takes place within Lorain County)

  • Dates: Sessions range from June 9th – July 10th and July 14th – August 14th
  • This 5-week paid program is designed to assess and build workplace readiness skills by providing you with a paid opportunity to experience the schedule, tasks, and expectations of a typical part-time, entry-level job in your local community.  Job coaches will be on-site to train and guide you throughout the day.  They offer Level 1 and Level 2 work sites to meet at a wide range of workplace readiness skills.  2 sessions are offered throughout the summer.  Referrals go through OOD.

Abilities First

  • Varying half-day sensory motor and writing camp for ages 4 – grade 3.  Accepts insurance, Medicaid, and scholarships.

Beyond Words

  • Location: 6058 Royalton Road, North Royalton

  • Dates: Summer Programs begin June 2025.  Open enrollment begin February 15, 2025
  • A team of Music Therapists and Dance Instructors offering alternative methods of communication. Programs available for ages 2 and up. New students, please complete the Summer Camp Intake Form to enroll for the program you’re interested in.  Private Pay and Family Supports funding accepted.

Camp Can Do

  • Dates: Varying sessions run from June 16th – August 7th
  • Camp Can Do is a unique and innovative approach to providing educational and recreational opportunities for youth ages 5 to 13 during the summer months.  This eight-week program is geared toward educating youth on a variety of positive and socially appropriate pursuits, as well as providing a high level of supervision for fun summer activities.  The Camp Can Do campers will participate in adapted in recreation activities like art, music, reading, language skills, speech, socialization, swimming, field trips and special events. A $20 non-refundable deposit is due at time of registration.  The Camp Can Do programs runs Mondays through Thursdays in four two-week sessions. Camp Cheerful

  • A camp offering a variety of therapeutic activities. Accepts waiver funding.

Camp Happiness

  • Dates: Camp will take place June 16, 2025-July 25, 2025, at the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe
  • Campers age 5 to 18 have the opportunity to participate in traditional camp activities including games, arts and crafts, swimming, field trips–all modified to meet the needs of each individual. Camp I.D.E.A.S.

Camp Imagine

  • Location: Avon Lake

  • An Extended School Year (ESY) camp offering recreational and skills-based activities for ages Pre-K through grade 12.
  • Can only accept students who are referred by their home school district for Extended School Year (ESY) services at this time.

Youth Challenge (formerly KRAZY KAMP)

  • Youth Challenge offers year-round adapted sports and recreational programming throughout the Greater Cleveland area to children with such disabilities muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, and spinal bifida, or that are blind or deaf.  Participants are paired up at each program with a teenage volunteer.

S.T.O.P. (Satisfaction through Opportunity Program)

FACEtime Summer Camp (Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center (CHSC))

  • CHSC offers a year-round therapy program called FACEtime: Fluency, Attitude, and Communication Effectiveness.  FACEtime is designed for older children and young teens who want to communicate more fluently and confidently.

YMCA of Greater Cleveland

Akron Rotary Camp for Persons with Special Needs

All Abilities Camp

  • Dates: Summer 2025 camp will take place June 6 – June 7.
  • A free physical fitness camp incorporating activities such as baseball, football, obstacles, and general fitness. For ages 5 and over. See website for more registration info!

Camp Echoing Hills

Camp Nuhop

Camp Stepping Stones Ohio

Creative Living Life Steps Camp

Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center Camp

  • Equestrian summer camp with a variety of programs all involving horses! This camp is available for ages 6-16. Registration requirements, specific camp dates, and online forms are available on the website!

Flying Horse Farms

  • Dates: Dates for varying camps run from June 8th – August 10th.
  • A camp for children ages 7-21 who has a diagnosis within the areas of cardiology, hematology, oncology, rheumatology, gastrointestinal disorders, pulmonary disorders, rare diseases, and facial anomalies. The camp is available at no cost and includes lodging and meals. See website for specific sessions. Peak Potential Therapy

  • Campers engage in structured learning activities in addition to daily field trips to generalize skills while focusing on social skills, communication, and emotional regulation.  This is therapeutic program was developed specifically for children with disabilities to provide them with a fun and interactive way to develop social skills, participate in the activities that typical kids take for granted, and work on their IEP goals.  See here to register.
