Murray Ridge Housing Corporation
Murray Ridge Housing Corporation (MRHC), a non-profit housing board, was formed in January of 1992 for the purpose of providing affordable housing for individuals with developmental disabilities. MRHC was initiated by Murray Ridge Center, which (when available) accesses capital assistance funds from the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) for the purpose of acquiring homes. Since its inception, MRHC has been committed to the goal of ensuring the availability of community-based living arrangements for eligible Lorain County citizens with developmental disabilities. MRHC purchases and renovates homes, renting to groups of no more than four tenants who share living expenses and household chores. Rental payments are made to the Housing Board which uses these revenues for repairs and to make additional housings purchases. Placement and monitoring of consumers falls under the Lorain County Board of DD Service and Support Administration (SSA) Department. Support services for tenants of MRHC are delivered by certified provider agencies selected by the service reciepients, and in accordance with individual service plans developed with the assistance of an SSA. There is a waiting list for this service.
Collectively, the homes owned by MRHC provide safe and affordable housing for more than 125 individuals with developmental disabilities. MRHC own 30+ homes which are all located in traditional residential neighborhoods throughout Lorain County.
